Clutterbot:

My time at Clutterbot has been the main part of my UX experience of both design and research. This has been where a big focus of my career has been of late as I feel as though from my past experiences and study overlap. While I can’t show specifics of the work I’ve completed due to the nature of the company, I can describe the different techniques and experiences I have gone through during my time at Clutterbot so far.

Interviews

As a big part of getting the customer perceptions and feedback to the company, as we conducted Data Collection for the robot, we also conducted interviews with the parents for information.

For this we had a list of relevant questions that were given to us to work though and have recorded to capture those insights.

Once we had recorded these we uploaded the findings to Dovetail and used their tagging feature to pull out useful information to pass onto the relevant Product Managers to help with future planning of systems.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

To help out with certain design systems of the app, I used Figma to created low fidelity wireframes of how notifications would be stored in the app on the notifications screen and how to navigate to them.

As this was a low fidelity wireframe I used part of the home screen design of our app and then used the apple IOS asset pack in oirder to create the wireframes.

Once the wireframes were created I then turned it into a functioning prototype in order to present the flow of the pages to the relevant stakeholders.

Usability Testing

For usability testing I conducted in person testing with a variety of our usual research customer base in order to test certain features of the app.

This involved me running through a script to make sure that the participants hit the main parts that we wanted to test along with general use. I also noted down any unique reactions they had during this testing.

Once I had tested with six different people I then took the information and collated it into findings that could be used to bring up conversations of what worked and what didn’t work for further changes in the Cloud & Mobile team.

User Flows

As part of refining and updating how certain flows were meant to go within the app, I was tasked with editing the user flow of the app as well as editing with new sections to showcase the proper flow of what we wanted a user to go through.

This was achieved using Miro.

Card Sorting

After interviews were taken by the lead designer, It came to us to sort through the data and group how many items were together and what items were left out.

This took some time in order to gather all the results and making sure every card was accounted for but once done the data was then needed to be put into a similarity matrix.

This was completed by a mix of Miro and Google Sheets.

Similarity Matrix

As a result of the initial card sorting, As a group myself and peers started to count how many options were grouped together and how they related to one another.

After the long process of going through each section I then put together what where the higher relations to each other in a matrix.

This was then used for providing feedback on placement on certain features to Design and Cloud & Mobile.

Research

As certain tasks were assigned or discussed about I had a variety of tasks that required more research in order to fully understand what was needed to achieve what we wanted.

This involved certain research tasks for things like app maps, video marketing and notifications.

For this I looked at specific companies website, written documents, media and more in order to get a full sense of the task at hand.

Concept Work

As part of the design for the eyes that will be on the robot Clutterbot is designing, I created a variety of concepts for these eyes using figma and photoshop, as well as gathered research around what we wanted to do with these eyes.

These were then refined as part of the development process as group meetings were undertaken to discuss the different options. Later on they underwent a sentiment testing with parents to see if we were going in the right direction.

Later on these were also tested on different screen sizes which involved me attaching printouts to a shell of the robot to give proper feedback to the engineers about this change.

Heuristic Evaluations

For a sense check of where the app was at in terms of UX, I conducted a Heuristic Evaluation of the app and raised many points to discuss why this was needed or not.

This required me making different screenshots of the app in it’s current state and providing critical feedback and positives via post it notes on Miro. Which was passed onto the design lead to discuss the suggestions with Cloud & Mobile.

Video Assets

As mentioned in my video editing section, In order to convey the information of specific topics back to the company, I created a number of short videos with the insights we were finding. As well as staged videos in order to get the core of the issue across the company.

For this I used Capcut and Davinci Resolve

A/B Testing

As a different part of my job when I was in charge of the Customer relationship management system (CRM), I looked into do subtle A/B testing with our recruitment ads that I was posting.

With this I had our normal text copy that we had been using and then I had created a new copy to post.

I had them posted a week apart from each other to test how the interaction was being received on the different ad posts. As a result of the changes I made we seemed to be getting more sign ups for home testing for Data Collection.

Thumbnail Drawing

To convey in a digital space what the plan was for different stages of the customer journey. I created drawings used as thumbnails for the sections that I was responsible for. This was to show easy to view visuals in order to have the point come across.

For this I used Clip Studio Paint to draw these and later inserted them to the Miro board that was being used.

Personal

Certifications from Alison.com - A Complete Guide to UX Design & User Interface Design with Figma:

With these certifications it has given me a basic understanding and familiarity with the UX ideology and gave me a foundation to work with as I learned more in my professional experience at Clutterbot. This also gave me a proper introduction to using Figma in a design workflow.

Work Examples

Due to the nature of the work at Clutterbot, I cannot showcase any of the work I have been doing in this field because of NDA’s. I have explained what I can above at this current time.

During this time I am working on a personal portfolio project to show my skillsets in this area, as the short courses I have done in the area have been more test based than creating individual projects.
